Red Light, Blue Light

2024 — Acrylic on canvas, 15 × 26 in (21.25 × 31.25 in framed) · from Notes from a Sky's Breath

Red Light, Blue Light is part of Notes from a Sky’s Breath, an ongoing exploration in a palette drawn from the sky—specific primaries and pastels rendered through gestural, minimalist mark-making. The practice originated in the idea of “the painter’s palette as the artwork,” and evolved into new forms while maintaining the foundational sky palette.

This composition emerged and ruminated in my dreams before being realized on canvas. For several months it hung beside my bed—feeding into my meditation and back into the cycle of my dreams. Illuminated by an intersection of red and blue light, the piece continually revealed new life—new shadows, new conversations among the colors and textures, new stories written in the shifting relationships between mark and light.
