Inputs in Theta
Created for the DAMzine residency, this artwork draws inspiration from hypnagogic visions, resulting from the amalgamation of sensory stimuli as inputs: being enveloped in the idea of brainwaves as the art prompt, reflecting on the rhythmic waves and dendritic patterns of both the mind and nature — the flowing of energy, and doting upon the flowers blooming outside.
Exploring the parallels between human and AI processes — inputs versus outputs — an AI was trained on a large collection of my abstract digital artwork. From its outputs I chose one that aligned with an upward sweeping motion mirroring the oscillating patterns of theta brainwaves, associated with subconscious thought and hypnagogic states, then blended in imagery of flowers and flowing water and painted into the image to create the final piece.
The work is both a personal reflection and a visual exploration of brainwaves in motion — the cyclical nature and continuity of thoughts and ideas: inputs and outputs, from human to human, human to machine, machine to human. Exhibited at JRNY Gallery, Las Vegas.
